Privacy Policy
Effective Date: April 18, 2026
1. Introduction
GUOJIA ZHANG ("Developer," "we," "us," or "our") built PlayVault as an offline-first music and video player. PlayVault is designed to work entirely with locally imported files — your media stays on your device.
This Privacy Policy describes what information PlayVault may collect, how it is used, and the choices you have regarding that information.
2. Information We May Collect
2.1 Data Collected Automatically (Analytics)
PlayVault may collect limited, anonymous analytics data to help us understand app performance and stability. This data is off by default and can be enabled by you in Settings. When enabled, the following may be collected:
| Data Type | Description | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Device ID (random install ID) | A random UUID generated on first launch and stored locally on your device. It is not derived from your hardware identifier, Apple ID, or any personal identifier. | Analytics |
| Product Interaction | Anonymous records of feature usage (e.g., import completed, playback started). No file names, titles, or content are collected. | Analytics |
| Performance Data | App version, build number, OS version, device model, and operation duration (in milliseconds). | Analytics |
2.2 Data Stored Locally on Your Device
PlayVault stores the following data locally on your device to provide core functionality:
- Imported media files — Audio and video files you import are stored in the app's private storage.
- Playback state — Your current queue, playback position, and shuffle/repeat preferences are saved locally so they persist between sessions.
- Library metadata — Track titles, artist names, album art, playlists, and favorites are stored in a local database on your device.
- App preferences — Theme selection, analytics opt-in, and other settings are stored in your device's standard user preferences.
- Share cards — When you choose to save a generated share card, PlayVault may write that image to your photo library with your explicit permission. PlayVault does not read or access your existing photos.
This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to share it (e.g., using the system share sheet).
3. What We Do NOT Collect
- Personal identification information (name, email, phone number)
- Precise or approximate location data
- Contacts or address book information
- Photos or media library contents (PlayVault may save generated share cards to your photo library with your permission, but does not read or access your existing photos)
- Browsing history or web activity
- Passwords, financial information, or payment details
- Health or fitness data
- Sensitive information of any kind
4. How Analytics Data Is Used
When you enable analytics, the anonymous data we collect is used solely to:
- Monitor app stability and detect crashes or errors
- Measure feature performance and responsiveness
- Improve the user experience in future updates
We do not use this data for advertising, marketing, profiling, or any commercial purpose.
5. Third-Party Services
The current version of PlayVault does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or data collection SDKs. We do not use services such as Google Analytics, Firebase, Facebook SDK, Amplitude, or any ad networks.
The current version of PlayVault does not contain in-app advertisements.
If we introduce third-party services in a future update, we will update this section to clearly identify the service provider, the data it may collect, and its purpose. Any such changes will be reflected in the App Privacy label on the App Store and this privacy policy.
6. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect any data transmitted over the network:
- All network communication uses HTTPS with certificate pinning
- Sensitive configuration values are obfuscated in the app binary
- Media files and library data are stored in the app's private sandbox
While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your data, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Children's Privacy
PlayVault is rated 4+ on the App Store and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. We do not require or request any personal data from users of any age. If you believe that personal data has been inadvertently collected from a child, please contact us and we will take steps to delete that information promptly.
8. Data Retention
Analytics data, when enabled, is retained for a maximum of 90 days. Locally stored media files and library data remain on your device until you delete them within the app or uninstall the app.
9. Your Rights and Choices
- Analytics opt-out: Analytics collection is off by default. You can toggle it at any time in PlayVault → Settings.
- Delete local data: You can delete imported files, playlists, and favorites directly within the app. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data.
- No account lock-in: PlayVault does not require an account, so there is no personal data tied to an account profile.
- Data Access: You may request a summary of any analytics data associated with your device by contacting us.
- Deletion Request: You may request deletion of any analytics data by contacting us at the email below.
10. WiFi Transfer
PlayVault includes a WiFi Transfer feature that allows you to send files from your computer to your device over your local network. This feature:
- Operates entirely within your local network
- Does not upload files to any cloud service or remote server
- Does not collect or transmit any personal information
- Uses your device's local network access only while the transfer is active
11. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):
- Right to Know: You have the right to request information about the categories and specific pieces of personal information we collect. Because PlayVault does not collect personal information linked to your identity, this right is generally not applicable.
- Right to Delete: You have the right to request deletion of your personal information. You can delete all locally stored data by uninstalling the app.
- Right to Opt-Out of Sale: PlayVault does not sell personal information. We do not share data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.
- Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA rights.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at the email address listed below. We will respond to all verifiable requests within 45 days.
12. International Users
PlayVault is available in multiple regions. If you are using PlayVault from a region with specific data protection laws (such as the EU's GDPR, Brazil's LGPD, or Japan's APPI), please note:
- We do not collect personal data that would be subject to these regulations
- No data is transferred across international borders for processing
- You may contact us at any time with questions about your data
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Effective Date" at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically to stay informed about how we protect your information.
